Can I use these assets in commercial work?
Yes, of course. More about the CC0 license here.
Can I use these assets in Maya/Max/Unreal/C4D/<insert 3d software of choice>?
Probably! Currently we provide all assets as .blend files and .fbx files. If your software can't import FBX, you can download Blender and re-export it in a different format.
We will support other software formats natively in future when those Patreon goals are met.
Textures are supplied as standard PBR maps that most modern render/game engines expect.
Can I upload my own models to 3D Model Haven?
Not right now, sorry. Opening the site up to public contributions is a bit of a legal can of worms, since everything on this site must be licensed as CC0.
It is something we want to do in the long run, but we'll need to be extremely careful to ensure no one is publishing copyrighted content, so we'll leave this to a later stage and concentrate on producing the content ourselves for now.
It's also extremely important to us to maintain a standard of quality, so any future system of public contributions will be strictly curated. We're not trying to be the next Turbosquid or Blendswap.
Do you use Photogrammetry/Photoscanning?
Sometimes yes, but remember this is just one of the many tools available. Our goal is to create quality assets, and we'll use whatever methods are best for each model.
How is this funded?
Most of our funding comes from you, on Patreon. We also accepted a $10k grant from Epic Games that helped to cover some of the initial costs in getting the site started, but from now on everything we do is funded by the community.
